Grocery Haul & Today's Eats

Not exactly the most exciting grocery haul but this is from Trader Joes & Vons.

Trader Joes- Sugar snap peas, olive oil tortillas, seaweed snacks, sprouted tofu, baked tofu, white mushrooms, and power to the greens mix.  I used the tortillas to make a hummus wrap and was not impressed with the flavor and thickness.  My son thankfully likes them so they won't go to waste.

Vons- Cilantro, bananas, tomatoes, avocados, lentil soup, and soy yogurt.

Breakfast was a smoothie made of kale, spinach, chard, banana, mango, strawberry, almond milk, and chia seeds.

Lunch was stirfry veggies and tofu and I completely forgot to snap a pic.

Dinner was quinoa, mushrooms, avocado, zucchini, spinach, and bragg's liquid aminos.  I'm happy that I have leftovers for lunch tomorrow because this was really yummy!

I also had a Lemon Ginger Kevita Sparkling Probotic Drink, so good!  I really like their coconut one too.

CSA Haul & Chia Seed Drink

Just dropping in to share a pic of my CSA basket from yesterday.  This is the small basket from Abundant Harvest Organics

This basket came with lettuce, oregano, daikon, green garlic, spring onion, carrots, potatoes, mandarin oranges, lemons, strawberry, and snap peas.

I definitely reccommend them if you are in their delivery area or finding another service near you, I love having fresh organic local produce delivered to my door.

I also wanted to show you the lemon chia seed drinks I have been making at home.  I'm pretty hooked on them.  I got the idea from the Oh She Glows blog.

For mine, I just use water and add 1 tbls chia seeds and I let it sit for a few minutes to let the chia seeds absorb some of the water.  Then I add one or two lemon slices and squeeze the rest of the lemon into it.  I also add one packet of stevia to sweeten it up.  It takes a little shaking while you are drinking since the seeds try to settle a little but I am loving these.  I'm going to have to see if I let the seeds sit for longer if they don't settle as much.

Vegan grocery haul from Vons

So I owe you guys a grocery haul post.  My youngest son and my husband are sick so this week got away from me.  This grocery haul was done yesterday at our local Vons grocery store.  Forgive all the plastic bags, I finally started using my mesh produce bags again and my son broke them, sigh.  I'll have to get some more soon.

So first up, there's organic soy milk, Cholula original hot sauce, WholeSoy & Co. strawberry yogurt (for my boys, I bought several but just pulled out 1 for the pic), Dave's Killer Bread, organic tofu, spinach, kale, parsley, red & green bell peppers, an onion, grapefruit, oranges, mushrooms, Amy's refried black beans, Amy's veggie chili, Amy's reduced sodium lentil soup, and a bag of Beanitos black bean chips.

And a few items that I forgot to include in the above pic.  I also picked up bananas, avocados, rice & lentil medley, and the head of cauliflower is actually from my last visit to Trader Joes but I need to use it this week.  Everything else in the 2 pics is from Vons.

I remember when I first went vegan a little over 2 years ago, I loved seeing grocery hauls so I hope this helps someone out there.  I am thinking of starting videos of my grocery hauls.  You'll have to let me know if anyone is interested in that.

New tattoo

Sorry for the very long absence of posts, it's been way too long!  My younger son started ABA services like my older son receives and it's been a major adjustment.

I will share a grocery haul tomorrow but wanted to show you guys my new tattoo that I got earlier this week.  It's healing pretty well but in the pealing stage now.

This is my 3rd tattoo and I have been wanting to get one like this for a while as this lifestyle is so important to me and has changed my life and health for the better!  I went shopping at Trader Joes and Albertson's today so I'll be back tomorrow with a haul pic.

Random Eats, Visit to Loving Hut & Grocery Haul

Sorry for the long hiatus.  I was getting my youngest son enrolled into ABA like his older brother and had various other things going on that left little time for blogging. I have been taking some pics here and there though as I was thinking about my bloggy friends while I was gone.

I have been making lots of really simple meals like this one.  It's mashed potatoes and green beans with some hummus.  The potatoes and green beans are from my last CSA basket which unfortunately I didn't get a pic of.  The basket arrived as we were about to leave for a dr appt so I shoved it into the fridge put everything away quickly and meant to take a pic later but it didn't happen.  The simple meals are inspired by Cathy Fisher.  Mine are not as cool as hers but I want to eat more like a lot of the pics she posts on facebook all the time.

Here's another similar one I made with mashed red potatoes, green beans, and heirloom tomato slices.

I made this one morning for breafast and it was just ok.  It's soy yogurt with mashed banana and some flax meal.  It tasted fine, just nothing exciting.

Brown rice noodles with veggies and tofu.  This has become a definite favorite around here.

I used the lefover tofu the next day and added it to brown rice, veggies, and avocado.  This makes me want more of that tofu right now, so good!

This was a one of those thrown together meals when groceries were getting low in the house.  It's brown rice pasta with spagetti sauce and tvp.

Also made a watermelon smoothie.  It's just watermelon blended with ice.  My youngest son won't eat watermelon by itself but he loves the juice so he really likes these.

We also went to Loving Hut where I tried their Wonton Soup that I have been wanting to try for a while. The flavor of the soup was really good as well as the veggies but the wontons were just so so to me.  I enjoyed it, I just think I like some of the other items on their menu better.

I also tried one of their Pina Coladas and that was really good!  You can almost see my oldest kiddo playing with his train in the background.  :)

Lastly, I have a grocery haul from yesterday.  We went to Trader Joes and I picked up a few things from Sprouts.  From TJs, I got tofu, corn tortillas, pecans, spinach, mushrooms, sunflower butter, brown rice spaghetti, and a couple fruit leathers.  At Spouts, I picked up avocados, hummus, vegan greek yogurt, and brown rice crackers.

See you guys later, hope everyone has a nice rest of the weekend and is adjusting to the time change!

Vegan Mofo Day 21 Grocery Haul

So I went by Trader Joes, Whole Foods, and Vons for a few things yesterday.  Didn't buy much produce because I still have some and I have a CSA basket being delivered this week.

First stop was Trader Joes.  I got brown rice spaghetti, brown rice, frozen veggies, corn tortillas, bananas, cereal, and salsa.

Next up was Whole Foods.  I mostly went there to get more Daiya.  My husband eats it more than I do but I always add a little to my lentil tacos.  I also got black beans and tofu.  Got the tofu there because I forgot to get it at TJs.

Last was Vons, our local grocery store.  I went there to buy the tortillas my oldest son likes.  They are the Tortilland Tortillas but unfortunately, they were out.  I did get some almond milk, lentils, and a package of Wholly Guacamole.  Yeah, yeah, I know.  I prefer to buy fresh avocados but I had a coupon for this and sometimes these little packets (it comes with 3 individual ones for 100 calories a piece) are nice to have in the fridge.  The taste is nowhere as good as a fresh avocado or making your own guacamole but eh, they are alright once in a while.

I also stopped by a little local place for some sweet potato fries.  They usually are more thicker but this time were cut so thin, they were more chip like.  Still delicious!

Vegan Mofo Day 18

Molly over at Rambling Vegans posted about a tofu scramble burrito she had making me want my tofu scramble so I made some for breakfast.  It's a pretty basic recipe but I posted it in this post

I also tried out one of the soups I bought the other day.  I made the Dr. McDougall's Vegetable Soup.

I added a little frozen corn to it while it was cooking.  It was good but a lot more broth than vegetables.  If I buy it again in the future, I would probably add some more veggies to it.  Had a great flavor though.

Also made a hummus plate.  This one has broccoli, baby carrots, red bell pepper, corn, and plain hummus.

And the last meal to share with you guys was my dinner tonight.  It's quinoa pasta topped with veggie chili, frozen corn, and just a little daiya.  This was one of those just throw some stuff together kind of meals that came out amazing!
